Mugdha & Nipun

The

Big fat Indian Wedding at Home

Mugdha  and  Nipun

Weddings are undoubtedly the biggest and happiest affairs among all celebrations. Especially for us Indians, it is a beautiful moment when two families come together in the happy union of the bride and groom. Every parent dreams of their child’s wedding the day he or she is born. However, many such dreams came to a standstill when the Coronavirus pandemic struck in 2020. Weddings became something one could only daydream of, or watch wistfully on a screen. Thankfully, with lockdowns opening up, we are slowly returning to life as it once used to be, albeit with a few changes. The dream of a beautiful wedding with celebrations and fanfare galore is once again a reality, as long as one is mindful of Covid19 safety norms, such as limited guests.

One such wedding we did during the pandemic was for Mugdha and Nipun, or what we like to call them #FindingNIMU, which was their creative and innovative hashtag.

Mugdha Agarwal and Nipun Garg’s was an arranged marriage but it was almost like a match made in heaven, considering how understanding and comfortable they were around each other. A happy go lucky bride, with the joy of life radiating from her face, Mugdha was an absolute delight to work with. And so, we made it our goal to plan the most organized and hassle-free wedding for her, which resonated with her vibrant personality.

The Agarwal family treated us like their own, extending the warmth of their hearts and trusting us fully with the whole process. For ages, a long-standing tradition in the family is that everyone who gets married has the entire wedding organized at home. And we thought, what better time to plan a wedding at home. And so, from the Mehendi, Bhaat, Haldi and Sangeet to the Wedding and Dinner, everything took place at the house, in the presence of loved ones who showered their blessings on the lovely couple.

Since all the families stayed in individual houses on the same plot, which were interconnected with courtyards, walkways and common interactive zones, the wedding became an even more intimate affair. This meant everyone could be part of all the functions easily once the fun stuff began.

The Mehendi was a morning affair with all the family members coming together in the massive central courtyard to dance along to their favourite tunes in their best day wear. It was an occasion full of happy smiles and lovely times. This was followed by the most fun function of all, the Haldi, where all the family members got together to play with colours and haldi, almost like a mini version of Holi. The bride was the cynosure of all eyes, happily dancing to her favourite tunes and enjoying all the attention, love and blessings that was showered on her.  This was a moment everyone, including us, will cherish for all times to come.

For the Sangeet & Cocktail night, the bride entered the venue, dancing energetically along with all her friends. A night of absolute merriment ensued, but in a musical manner! Everyone swayed and rocked to the soulful tunes of the music whilst enjoying the company of their loved ones, without a care in the world. The Sangeet night venue was the lawn of another family member’s house in the same plot. It was almost like having all the fun of a destination wedding from the comfort of one’s living rooms. By holding all functions in one place, the family saved precious time and enjoyed each other’s company at ease instead of spending it on travelling and organizing everything and solving last minute hassles at the venue.

The most special moment came when everyone got together post ceremony, to fly lanterns in the air, a majestic sight to witness in the company of all loved ones.

The Wedding was a splendid affair where everyone enjoyed the scrumptious, handcrafted delicacies and beverages by the always amazing Creative Cuisine Inc. The special occasion was attended by hyper excited families who rejoiced while witnessing the Bride and Groom’s union who were already lost in each other’s eyes. The bride then left her home during the Vidaai in the most unexpected way possible, dancing and laughing towards her happily ever after.

And this is how we managed to bring the “Big Fat Indian Wedding” alive from the comfortable homes of our guests, and if we can, so can you!
